San Antonio Rampage News Release

TORONTO (Jan. 2, 2015) - The San Antonio Rampage (18-11-3-0) fell to the Toronto Marlies (14-15-5-0) 3-2 in their second meeting of the season and first at Ricoh Coliseum in front of 3,126 on Friday night. This is the first of two games in a weekend series against the Marlies that will conclude Saturday afternoon.

Drew Shore and Garrett Wilson scored for the Rampage, and with both goals coming on the power play, San Antonio finished 2-for-9 with the man advantage.

Matt Frattin's power-play goal late in the opening period put the home team up first, as Frattin took a well-timed pass from former Rampage forward Byron Froese before putting the puck past Michael Houser to give the Marlies a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.

Frattin struck again to open the second-period scoring, firing off a rebound to give Toronto a two-goal lead at 6:39. The Rampage got on the board shortly after. Rocco Grimaldi's stick broke, causing the puck to change directions and land on the tape of Shore, whose power-play goal at 8:50 marked his second tally in as many nights.

Ryan Rupert extended the Marlies lead back to two goals, converting off a Connor Brown pass to give Toronto at 3-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.

With a little more than two minutes remaining in regulation and the Rampage on the power play, San Antonio pulled Michael Houser to skate six attackers. Garrett Wilson scored to bring the Silver and Black within one at 18:45. Despite another power-play opportunity as time dwindled in the final period, the Rampage were unable to score the equalizer.

Houser, in his 11th start of the season, made 16-of-19 saves. San Antonio held Toronto to 19 shots on goal and just three in the third frame, which ties a season record for fewest shots allowed by the Rampage in a period.
