Pirates Enter 2015 with Win over Falcons

Portland, Me.- The Portland Pirates (18-15-1-0) won their first game of 2015, third win in a row, with a 5-3 victory over the Springfield Falcons (22-10-2-0) on Friday night. The Pirates entered the game on a hot streak with three goals in the first frame, a lead they were able to maintain for the remainder of the game. Each team scored two power play goals in the contest.

The first goal of the night came at 9:31 when Alex Bolduc scored, assisted by Justin Hodgman and Henrik Samuelsson. Dylan Reese made the score 2-0 Pirates at 18:46, with assists from Eric Selleck and Corey Trivino. Seventeen seconds later, Jordan Martinook put up the third goal of the period at 19:04, assisted by Reese and Samuelsson.

The Falcons entered the second period with a goal from Lukas Sedlak at 2:08 with assists from Frederic St. Denis and Mike Hoeffel. St. Denis netted one of his own at 12:07, with Austin Madaisky and T.J. Tynan picking up assists. Jordan Szwarz answered with a Pirates goal at 14:05, assisted by Hodgman and Lucas Lessio.

Lessio scored at 4:54 in the final frame, with Hodgman and Jordon Southorn getting the assists. Springfield put up their final goal of the night at 6:13, when Dana Tyrell scored, assisted by Madaisky and Luke Adam.

The Pirates applied a lot of pressure on the Falcons early on, leading in shots on goal by a tally of 17-5 by the end of the first period. Mike McKenna (13-12-1) was dynamite in net, saving 26 of 23 Falcon shots. Anton Forsberg (15-4-1) manned the net for Springfield, stopping 27 of 32 shots faced.
