Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
ROSEMONT, ILL. - Hamilton Bulldogs forward T.J. Hensick scored twice in the third period to erase a 2-0 deficit and force overtime, but Chicago Wolves (18-12-4-0) defenceman Brent Regner scored with 43 seconds to play in the extra frame to lift his club past the 'Dogs (15-13-6-0) 3-2 on Friday evening at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill.
Chicago forward Shane Harper gave his club a 1-0 lead on the power play 8:11 into the first period when he squeaked a backhand shot off of a rebound past Hamilton goaltender Mike Condon. Forwards Ty Rattie and Pat Cannone had assists.
The Wolves took a 2-0 lead just over three minutes into the second period when a point shot by defenceman Jake Chelios found a hole through a screen and past Condon.
Hamilton cut Chicago's lead in half just 37 seconds into the third period when Hensick raced down the right wing, then faked behind the net and scored his ninth goal of the season on a wraparound shot. Forward Nick Sorkin and defenceman Greg Pateryn had assists on the play.
With less than five minutes to play in regulation time, Hensick flipped a wrister on net through a screen and it sneaked past Climie to tie the game, 2-2. Hensick's 10th goal of 2014-15 - which tied him for the team lead in goals with forward Charles Hudon - was assisted by forward Daniel Carr and Sorkin.
The two teams needed overtime to settle the tie and with under a minute left in extra time, playing three-on-three, Cannone sprung Regner on a breakaway and he beat Condon to lift the Wolves to a 3-2 victory.
Condon made 35 saves on 38 shots for the Bulldogs in the loss, while Climie stopped 33 of 35 shots faced for the Wolves in the win.
Hamilton went 0-for-4 on the power play, while Chicago was 1-for-6 with a man advantage.
