San Antonio Rampage News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY (February 4, 2009) - Viktor Tikhonov scored with 1:46 remaining in regulation for his Rampage debut, but Binghamton held on for a 4-3 win and season sweep (2-0) of San Antonio Wednesday night at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Binghamton's Peter Regin setup trailer Tomad Kudelka for the game's first goal. Kudelka sent home his fifth goal of the season through the five-hole beating Rampage goalie Josh Tordjman at 14:32 of the first period for a 1-0 Senators lead.

In the second frame, the Senators extended their lead with two early goals from Zack Smith and Marc Cavosie, both set up by former Rampage defenseman Drew Fata. Smith scored his 13th goal of the season just 1:11 into the second period before Cavosie pocketed a shorthanded goal 2:43 later to give Binghamton a 3-0 lead.

However, the Rampage cut into the lead behind two Wyatt Smith power-play goals minutes later. Chad Kolarik assisted on the first at the 6:11 mark. It was the fifth straight game with an assist from Kolarik. Smith deposited an unassisted goal at 10:47 of the second period to cut the deficit to 3-2.

But Josh Hennessey's power-play goal at 10:47 put the Senators up 4-2 heading into the third frame.

The Senators held that lead until 1:46 remaining in regulation when Tikhonov scored his first Rampage goal to pull San Antonio within one at 4-3. Tikhonov, the grandson of legendary U.S.S.R. Olympic Head Coach Viktor Tikhonov and a 2008 Phoenix Coyotes 1st Round Draft Pick (28th overall), is rehabbing with San Antonio after missing 10 games with a back injury.

Tordjman, fresh off being named the Reebok/AHL Goaltender of the Month, gave up four goals on 24 shots after not allowing more than three goals in any of his 13 January starts.

This was only the second game in team history between the two squads and the final matchup this season. Binghamton beat San Antonio last Thursday 2-1 at the AT&T Center.

The new-look Rampage, playing without captain Jeff Hoggan and Joel Perrault among others, face a daunting weekend stretch of games playing three-in-three as they continue their Rodeo Road Trip. San Antonio faces Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday, Hershey on Saturday and Rochester on Sunday night.

Hoggan, Perrault, Kevin Porter and David Schlemko have all been recently recalled by parent club, Phoenix, to the NHL. The Rampage will be relying on an infusion of new talent including Adam Perry, Jeff Kinnunen, Steve Ward, Igor Gongalsky and Tikhonov, as their 13-game, 25-day, Rodeo Road Trip continues.
