Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators defeated the San Antonio Rampage in a penalty filled contest Wednesday night, downing the West Division foe for the second time in less than a week with a 4-3 victory at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
The B-Sens got the scoring started late in the first period when defenseman Tomas Kudelka fired a shot from the near point through goaltender Josh Tordjman's pads. Center Peter Regin fed Kudelka a cross-ice pass setting up his fifth goal of the season and his second straight game in which he has picked up a point (1+1).
Wasting no time, the B-Sens struck again in the opening minutes of the second frame when Zack Smith beat Tordjman on a breakaway for a 2-0 lead. Drew Fata controlled the puck deep in the defensive zone and threaded a pass up ice to Smith who skated in for his 13th tally of the season.
Minutes later, while down a man, Mark Cavosie cruised into the San Antonio zone along the near boards and then cut across the ice ripping a shot, top shelf, for a short-handed goal. Fata picked up another assist with his outlet pass that sent Cavosie down the ice for a 3-0 lead. With his second helper, Fata tied a career-high.
The Rampage answered with a pair of power-play goals from center Wyatt Smith midway through the second period. Both goals were off of loose pucks that were unable to be controlled by the B-Sens.
After San Antonio closed the gap to one, the B-Sens answered back on the power play with the eventual game winner coming off of Josh Hennessy's stick. Danny Bois picked up a loose puck behind the Rampage net and found Hennessy parked in front for an easy tip in giving the B-Sens a 4-2 lead.
Late in the third San Antonio picked up a goal from Viktor Tikhonov, with their goalie pulled, to bring them within one but were unable to take advantage of the extra man again as the Sens clamped down defensively to preserve the 4-3 victory. The B-Sens racked up a season-high 61 penalty minutes.
The B-Sens hit the road for three road games this weekend, beginning on Friday night with a visit to the Hamilton at 7:30 p.m. Tune into 680 WINR-AM or 1430 WENE-AM 30 minutes before game time for Countdown to Faceoff with Grady Whittenburg, Voice of the B-Sens.
