Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - The Milwaukee Admirals will host their annual Tribute to Wrestling Day, sponsored by Action Power Sports, at their game against the Peoria Rivermen this Sunday, February 8th at 4:00 pm. Currently scheduled to appear include professional wrestling legends Jimmy "The Mouth of the South" Hart, "Handsome" Harley Race, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, "Jumpin'" Jim Brunzell, and Tito Santana.
The wrestlers will sign autographs on the Bradley Center concourse beginning when the doors open at 3:00 pm. In addition, there will be a display featuring memorabilia of Reggie Lisowski, better known as the "The Crusher," the wrestler who made Milwaukee famous.
A famous manager who hails from Memphis, TN, Jimmy Hart is well known for the use of his Megaphone to get the crowd going. Because of this, he was given the nickname "The Mouth of the South." Often considered a pioneer for wrestling managers, Hart has led numerous WCW and WWF champions including Hulk Hogan, Jerry "The King" Lawler, Ted DiBiase, and The Honky Tonk Man.
Race won eight NWA world championships over a wrestling career that has spanned over four decades. He is also well known for managing Lex Luger and Vader to WCW World Championships. In addition to bloody rivalries with both Funk brothers, Harley had epic battles with others such as Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, and Dick the Bruiser. In addition, Race has reportedly wrestled in every country in the world with the exception of Russia and communist China.
Jumpin Jim Brunzell's wrestling career began in the early 1970's in the American Wrestling Association and in 1977 he and Greg Gagne captured the AWA World Tag Team Championship, the first of two tag team titles he would hold with Gagne. In 1985, Brunzell moved to the WWF where he formed the popular tag team combo, The Killer Bees with Brian Blair. The duo had consistent success together and were crowned the champions of the tag team match at the original Survivor Series.
After playing a season of professional football in the Canadian Football League, Tito Santana got his start in wrestling in the NWA and AWA before joining the WWF in 1979 and shortly thereafter teamed with Ivan Putski to claim the WWF Tag Team Championship. Santana also experienced individual success and was crowned WWF Intercontinental Champion on February 11th, 1994. However, Santana is probably best known for his work with Rick Martel as the pair composed the tag team combo "Strike Force," which captured the WWF Tag Team Title. Santana was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004.
Greg "The Hammer" Valentine has been entertaining wrestling fans since 1971. The Seattle, WA native captured the NWA Tag Team Title on two occasions with Ric Flair and moved to the WWF in 1984 where he was managed by for a while by Jimmy Hart. In September of that year, Valentine captured the Intercontinental Championship from Santana and later teamed with Brutus Beefcake to form the tag team duo of "The Dream Team." Valentine was also honored with induction in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004.
