Rampage fall 5-1 to Flames on Saturday
November 8, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - San Antonio's winless streak moved to five straight after Quad City won a 5-1 decision Saturday night at the AT&T Center. The Rampage came into the game looking to move into a points tie with the Flames in the West Division, but Quad City netted three power-play goals in six opportunities against the AHL's second ranked penalty killing team.
Quad City got it started in the first when forward Kyle Greentree's one-timer from inside the circle skipped over the outstretched leg of Rampage goalie Josh Tordjman low glove side for a 1-0 lead and power-play goal at the 11:38 mark.
Quad City opened it up in the second period when forward David Van der Gulik scored off a deflection from center Jamie Lundmark at the 15:27 mark on another Quad City power play. It came after San Antonio fended off a five-on-three advantage and it was Van der Gulik's third of the season. Center Warren Peters capped off the second period knocking home a rebound that he backhanded across the goal line with 12 seconds left in the period to make it a 3-0 lead.
San Antonio got on the board early in the third when forward Jeff Hoggan intercepted a pass deep in the Flames' zone and wristed the puck past Flames goalie Matt Keetley off the crossbar, off the goalies back and then trickled into the net to cut the deficit to 3-1 just 1:15 into the frame.
Later in the third, Quad City put the game away with two more goals, including another of the power play variety, when defenseman Ryan Wilson and forward Adam Cracknell combined to beat recently assigned goalie Joel Gistedt with just under six minutes left in the period. Two minutes later forward Kris Chucko capped off a five goal night and the victory for the visiting Flames.
For the Rampage, it was the first power-play goals the team had allowed in the last four and the Flames held San Antonio to their lowest shot output in a period with only four shots in the first period. Tordjman took the loss falling to 1-3-1 while saving 16 of 19 in net. Gistedt played the third stopping 7 of 9 shots. Keetley turned aside 18 of 19 to take the win and improve to 4-7-0.
This was the fifth consecutive game the Rampage have been held to one goal. San Antonio is 2-8-0-1, while the Flames improved to 4-8-1-0.
The Rampage face off with the Flames again Sunday at the AT&T Center, game time at 5 p.m.
