Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated their North Division rival the Toronto Marlies 5-2 on Saturday night. In front of 4,963 fans at Copps Coliseum, newly appointed captain Kyle Chipchura led the âDogs with two goals and was recognized as the game's first star.
Chipchura opened the game's scoring at 8:45 of the first frame. While on a two-on-one, Greg Stewart sent a pass to Chipchura who blasted a shot off the post and past Toronto starting goaltender Justin Pogge. Matt D'Agostini added the Bulldogs' second marker of the period while on the power play at 12:13. D'Agostini tapped a loose rebound past a sprawled Pogge to increase the âDogs lead to two.
The Marlies cut the lead in half in the second stanza while on a two-man power-play advantage at 6:09. Tim Stapleton hammered a shot from the point that was tipped by Andre Deveaux and trickled through the legs of Hamilton starting goaltender Marc Denis.
The Bulldogs responded when Stewart scored at 8:25 of the middle frame. Pogge made the initial save on a Ben Maxwell shot but was unable to stop Stewart, who grabbed the rebound and banged the puck past Pogge to restore Hamilton's two-goal lead.
The Marlies made the game 3-2 when Kris Newbury beat Denis at 11:21 of the second period. Foster fed a pass to Newbury who snapped a shot over the glove of Denis.
Hamilton added two goals in the final frame to seal the win. Max Pacioretty dangled the puck past a Toronto defender before backhanding a shot on net that Pogge saved. Glumac raced to the net and poked the puck through Pogge's five-hole at 7:24. Chipchura notched his second goal of the game at 15:06. Mathieu Aubin earned his first point of the season when he sent a pass to Chipchura who proceeded to snap a shot that beat Pogge on the shortside to give the Bulldogs a 5-2 lead.
The âDogs travel to Cleveland tomorrow to battle the Lake Erie Monsters at Quicken Loans Arena. 2008-2009 Hamilton Bulldogs single-game and season tickets are now available! For more information, call 905-529-8500 or visit www.hamiltonbulldogs.com.
