Falcons earn another point on the road

For the second straight night the Falcons played a tough Atlantic Division opponent on the road and once again earned a hard-fought point in the standings. The Falcons fell in overtime to the Hartford Wolf Pack on Saturday night by a score of 4-3 at the XL Center. Hartford's Lauri Korpikoski scored the game-winner in the extra session capping off his hat trick on the evening. The Falcons have now earned a point in four straight games heading into Tuesday's contest at Worcester.

Trailing 2-1 heading into the third period, the Falcons pulled even at 2-2 when Liam Reddox scored just 38-seconds into the final frame. Hartford regained their lead at 3-2 when Korpikoski converted on the power play at 1:49 of the third period, his second marker of the game. Springfield once again tied the score when Gilbert Brule tallied on the power play at 9:04 of the final stanza, his second marker of the night, evening the score at 3-3.

After a scoreless first period, Hartford opened the scoring at 12:14 of the second period when Greg Moore scored his second goal of the season. Less than a minute later, the Falcons tied the score at 1-1 when Brule tallied his third marker of the campaign at 13:01 of the middle frame. Hartford regained the lead at 17:44 of the second period when Korpikoski scored his second goal of the year.

The second period also featured the game's only fight as Springfield defenseman Bryan Young and Hartford defenseman Vladimir Denisov each collected fighting majors. The altercation occured after Young recorded a very solid, and legal bodycheck to a Hartford forward along the right wing boards in the Wolf Pack defensive zone.
