Rochester Americans News Release

Tonight, the Rochester Americans remain at home for the fourth game of their current season-long six-game homestand as the Houston Aeros make their first and only visit of the season to The Blue Cross Arena. The 7:35 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live. After the game, fans can head down to The Distillery, located at 1142 Mt. Hope Ave., for the official postgame party.

Head to Head: The matchup marks the first of two scheduled meetings between the non-divisional rivals this season. Rochester was 0-1-1-0 a year ago and is 3-8-3 all-time against the Minnesota Wild's affiliate.

Amerks Notes: The Amerks (1-10-0-0, 2 points) enter the contest currently on a five-game skid after falling short in a 5-1 loss to the Manitoba Moose last night at The Blue Cross Arena. Rookie forward Shawn Matthias scored Rochester's lone goal as it dropped its 10th of its last 11 games. Second-year forward Kenndal McArdle recorded an assist on Matthias' second goal of the season last night to extend his point streak to four games (1+3) and become the team's top point-getter with seven points (2+5) on the young season. First-year defenseman Jason Garrison shares the team lead with five assists while his six points (1+5) currently ranks him tied for 18th among active American Hockey League blueliners. Karl Stewart has found the back of the net a team-high four times this season and sits in a third-place tie with five points (4+1) overall. Rochester's Michael Duco remains the league and team leader with 76 penalty minutes (PIM) with McArdle a distant second with 41 PIM for second on the team and 17th in the league, respectively.

Houston Notes: Houston (7-4-0-0, 14 points), playing Game 2 of a five-game road swing, approaches the contest the winners of three of its last four games to earn a second place standing in the West Division, four points behind division leading Chicago Wolves. The Aeros' most recent win came in a 3-1 victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs last night at Copps Coliseum. Corey Locke currently paces Houston's offensive output with a team-high 10 points (3+7) in 8 games, while his seven helpers are also a team best. Second-year goaltender Nolan Schaefer is among the elite in terms of AHL netminders this season. His 2.43 goals-against average and five wins currently ranks him 17th and his five wins ties him for second, respectively. Further, his one shutout thus far also ties him in second place.

Next Game: Rochester is back at The Blue Cross Arena on Monday, November 10th as it seeks its first win of the 2008-09 AHL season against the Manitoba Moose. The 7:35 p.m. North Division contest is the fourth of eight meetings between the two teams and can be heard live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live.
