
P-Bruins Defeat River Rats 4-3

Albany, NY - The Providence Bruins defeated the Albany River Rats 4-3 Saturday evening in overtime at the Times Union Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Jeremy Reich, Brad Marchand, Martins Karsums and Vladimir Sobotka. The P-Bruins are back at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday versus the Philadelphia Phantoms at 4:05 p.m. for Kid's T-Shirt Night.
After a scoreless opening period, the River Rats took a 1-0 advantage at the 10:07 mark of the second period. The River Rats stole the puck at the centerline and sent it down the right wing to Jerome Samson. He took a shot from the right face off circle and it went into the net for his second goal of the season. Stefan Chaput and Benn Olson had the assists as Albany took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the third period, Albany took a 2-0 lead only 43 seconds into the period. While on the power play, Chaput tallied his first goal of the season with Samson and Brett Carson recording the assists. Providence pulled within a goal at the 7:42 mark, while shorthanded. Wacey Rabbit and Reich had a 2-on-1 breakaway. Rabbit took a shot and Reich was there to put home the rebound for his fourth goal of the season. Moments later the River Rats scored on the power play. At the 8:19 mark, Jakub Petruzalek netted his fourth goal of the season, while Dan LaCouture and Casey Borer grabbed the assists. The P-Bruins battled back with a power play goal of their own at the 15:44 mark. Matt Lashoff shot the puck from the left point and Marchand tipped it into the net for his third goal of the season. Karsums had the second assist. With the goaltender pulled the P-Bruins tied the game at the 19:22 mark. Martin St. Pierre passed the puck from behind the net to Karsums in the slot, who scored his fourth goal of the season to send the game into overtime.
In the extra session, the P-Bruins went on the power play early and at the 0:39 mark, Sobotka netted the game winner from right in front of the net, his third goal of the season. Johnny Boychuk and St. Pierre had the assists as the P-Bruins went on to the 4-3 victory.
Kevin Regan stopped 14 of 17 shots for the P-Bruins, while Justin Peters made 54 saves for the River Rats. The P-Bruins were 2-for-10 on the power play and 4-for-6 on the penalty kill.
