San Antonio Rampage News Release
San Antonio (4-5-0-0) had a strong 1-0 start in the first period but the Chicago Wolves answered back with four consecutive goals to defeat the Rampage 5-2 at the SBC Center Wednesday night for their first series win against the Phoenix Coyotes affiliate.
Steve Gainey extended his point streak to four games (2-2-4) as he assisted on Mike Bishai's goal at 8:15 in the opening period to give the Rampage a 1-0 lead. Gainey, who leads the Rampage in points, collected his 11th for the season.
Down 2-1 heading into the third period, Chicago jumped to a 4-1 lead by scoring just 46 seconds into the period and followed with a short-handed goal just 55 seconds later.
The Rampage replied with a short-handed goal of their own when Martin Sonnenberg notched his first goal on the season. Sonnenberg had help from Layne Ulmer and Brad Ference, who both stretched their point-streak margins. Ulmer now has five points (2-3-5) in four games and Ference has two points (0-2-2) in two games.
Chicago (3-3-1-0) would score another short-handed goal at 8:39 to cap the win.
