Canucks sign Jason Doig

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced they have signed former Winnipeg Jets draft pick defenceman Jason Doig to a new contract.

Doig, 28, has played in five games with the Moose so far this season, recording two assists and six penalty minutes. He also boasts a +2 rating. The Montreal, PQ native did not play last season during the National Hockey League lockout. In 2003-04, he played in 65 games with the Washington Capitals, scoring two goals and 11 points along with 105 penalty minutes.

Doig has appeared in 258 career American Hockey League games with Springfield, Hartford, Grand Rapids, Portland, and the Moose. He has scored 15 goals and 91 assists for 106 points, along with 713 penalty minutes. He won a Calder Cup with the Wolf Pack back in 2000. In his seven-year pro career, Doig has played in 158 career games in the National Hockey League with Winnipeg, Phoenix, the New York Rangers, and the Capitals, scoring six goals and 18 assists for 24 points and 285 penalty minutes

Doig was originally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets with their second choice, 34th overall, in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.
