Louisville Bats News Release

PAPILLION, NE - Despite a solid outing from Christian Roa and a strong return by Henry Ramos, the Louisville Bats (65-60) fell to the Omaha Storm Chasers (56-66) 4-3 in the series opener at Werner Park on Tuesday evening.

The Bats got off to a quick start, taking the lead in the top of the second. Jason Vosler got the effort going with a lead-off single before Henry Ramos put Louisville on the board with a two-run homer in his first at-bat back with the Bats. After reaching second on a dropped third strike wild pitch, Drew Mount scored on an RBI single by Jacob Hurtubise later in the inning to give the Bats a 3-0 lead.

Omaha gained a couple runs back in the bottom of the second after a leadoff home run and Louisville defensive miscue, cutting the Bats lead down to one at 3-2.

The Storm Chasers scored again in the bottom of the fifth, combining several base hits to even the score at 3-3.

Righthander Christian Roa (0-3, 6.26) pitched 4.0 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits while striking out four and walking four. Kevin Herget (2-3, 5.09) took over for Roa in the fourth, turning in 2.0 strong innings of relief, giving up just one hit while keeping Omaha off the board and striking out five without issuing a walk.

Louisville threatened to retake the lead in the top of the seventh, loading the bases on walks to Hurtubise and Matt Reynolds with a fielder's choice to Jake Fraley, but ultimately stranded all three runners.

The game remained tied at three going into the ninth. Omaha scored once more in the bottom of the inning on a two out single, walking off the Bats by a final score of 4-3.

Louisville will play the second game in the series against Omaha tomorrow, Wednesday, August 30 with first pitch set for 7:35 pm E.T. Bats right hander Michael Mariot (4-2, 6.75) will get the nod for the Bats, taking on fellow righty Jonathan Bowlan (3-5, 6.04) for the Storm Chasers.
