Liberatore, Woodford Make MLB Rehab Appearances in Loss to Gwinnett

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds began a six-game homestand with an 8-3 loss to the Gwinnett Stripers at AutoZone Park on Tuesday night.

The lone Memphis runs came via a three-run rally in the bottom of the fourth inning. With designated hitter Ivan Herrera and first baseman Juan Yepez aboard, third baseman Nick Dunn laced a single to drive in Herrera and advance Yepez to third. A batter later, shortstop Jose Fermin drove in Yepez with a sacrifice fly while Dunn scored on a throwing error during the play.

Matthew Liberatore (4-3) allowed five runs on five hits, walked five and struck out five in an MLB Rehab start. The left-handed pitcher allowed a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and worked around traffic all night. Liberatore threw 78 pitches, 45 for strikes.

Jake Woodford made an MLB Rehab appearance out of the bullpen. The right-handed pitcher allowed one run in 3.1 innings, allowed two hits, walked one and struck out six batters. Woodford threw 66 pitches, 40 for strikes.

The Redbirds (62-65) return to AutoZone Park on Wednesday, Aug. 30 to continue a six-game homestand at 6:45p.m. CDT against the Gwinnett Stripers.
