Mlodzinski Set to Begin Rehab Assignment with Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS - The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced that right-handed relief pitcher Carmen Mlodzinski will begin a rehab assignment with the Indianapolis Indians as they begin a six-game road trip at Sahlen Field, home of the Buffalo Bisons. Mlodzinski is the 11th major league rehabber assigned to Indy on 12 different assignments this season, joining infielders Ji Man Choi and Ke'Bryan Hayes, southpaw pitchers Jose Hernandez and Rob Zastryzny, and right-handed pitchers Wil Crowe, Chase De Jong, Max Kranick, Dauri Moreta, Robert Stephenson and Vince Velasquez.

Mlodzinski, 24, was placed on the 15-day injured list on Aug. 12 (retro to Aug. 10) with right elbow soreness. He had his contract first selected by Pittsburgh on June 16 and made his major league debut that night at Milwaukee. In 21 games (one start) with the Pirates, he is 2-3 with a 2.28 ERA (6er/23.2ip), 21 strikeouts and .198 batting average against (17-for-86).

After making his Triple-A debut on Oct. 3, 2021, Mlodzinski returned to Indy as part of its 2023 Opening Day roster and went 2-2 with one save, a 3.16 ERA (9er/25.2ip) and 31 strikeouts in 19 games. On June 8 vs. Omaha, he fanned a season-high five batters in 2.0 innings.

Mlodzinski was selected by Pittsburgh as the 31st overall pick in the 2020 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of South Carolina (Columbia).
