Rallo, Morin Bury the Rampage in Overtime, 5-4

CEDAR PARK, Texas - Greg Rallo's one-time blast was the finishing touch on a 5-4 overtime win for the Texas Stars over the rival San Antonio Rampage on Tuesday night in front of 4,752 in attendance at Cedar Park Center to close out a three-game set between the two clubs.

The game-winner was Rallo's eighth power play goal of the season and 11th overall. Travis Morin set up Rallo for the assist and finished with a four-point game. The Stars captain is now tied for the AHL scoring lead with 34 points on the year alongside Toronto's William Nylander. Rallo extended his point streak to six games with the goal against his former team.

The Stars (16-13-2-2) close out 2015 with a New Year's Eve game against San Diego on Thursday at 7 p.m.

After Texas opened up a 4-2 lead in the third period thanks to Morin tallying the team's fifth shorthanded goal of the season at 2:30, and his second of the night, San Antonio (14-11-7-0) battled back to force overtime with goals from Dennis Everberg on the power play at 10:54 and Borna Rendulic snapping his second of the game at 12:27.

Colin Smith picked up a tripping minor in the extra frame to set up the Stars' power play chance for the game-winner.

San Antonio opened a 1-0 lead 1:05 into the contest with Rendulic banging a shot from Nick Drazenovic that squeaked past Texas goaltender Maxime Lagace. Texas replied at the 6:40 mark when Brendan Ranford dug the puck free before Morin dropped it off to Stephen Johns in the right circle for his second goal of the season. The Stars took their first lead of the game when Morin caused a turnover at the blue line to create a breakaway and finished for his ninth goal of the season at 9:45.

In the second, the Rampage again started quickly at 3:15 as Reid Petryk slipped a shot near the crease through the legs of Lagace to tie the contest back up at 2-2. The Stars battled back at 7:14 on a play set up by Radek Faksa pitching to Derek Hulak on the doorstep, and Mattias Backman was there to stuff home a rebound for a 3-2 Texas lead.

Texas took a timeout with 2:10 left in the third and inserted John Muse in between the pipes. Lagace left the game with an apparent injury suffered during play midway through the final period. Muse earned his eighth win of the season despite only facing two shots in limited action. Roman Will suffered the overtime loss stopping 32 of 37 shots for the Rampage. Lagace was 32 of 36 for Texas.

The Stars finished 1-for-5 on the power play. San Antonio went 2-for-4.
