Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

Weekly Rewind

Saturday, Dec. 26 - PENGUINS 0 at Hershey 5

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was held off the score sheet for the first time this season as Dan Ellis recorded his first shutout of the season with 22 saves. Penguins rookie goalie Casey DeSmith came in to start the third period and turned away all seven shots faced in his AHL debut.

Sunday, Dec. 27 - PENGUINS 0 vs. Lehigh Valley 3

Despite outshooting the Phantoms, 35-19, the Penguins were shut out for the second consecutive game. Lehigh Valley's Jason LaBarbera made all 35 saves for his first shutout of the season and the 39th of his 19-year pro career. Pens winger Bryan Rust tied a career high with seven shots on goal.

The Week Ahead

Thursday, Dec. 31 - PENGUINS vs. Syracuse

The Penguins face the Crunch for the third time this season and third time in the month of December in a New Year's Eve showdown. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has beaten Syracuse in their previous two match-ups, outscoring the Crunch 9-2 in the process.

Saturday, Jan. 2 - PENGUINS vs. Springfield

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has the chance to start 2016 on the right foot against the Springfield Falcons on home ice. The last time the Pens and Falcons faced off was a home-and-home series back on Oct. 23 and 24. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton won both games, 5-0 and 3-2, to keep Springfield winless to start the season. The Falcons have gone 12-12-0-1 since.

Sunday, Jan. 3 - PENGUINS at Hartford

A quick turnaround from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon sees the Penguins in a matinée match with the Wolf Pack. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is 2-1-0-0 against Hartford this season and averages four goals per game through those three tilts.

Ice Chips

- Regardless of any results leading up to New Year's Day, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton cannot be overthrown from the top spot in the Atlantic Division before the start of 2016.

- The last time the Penguins were shut out in consecutive games was exactly one year ago on Dec. 26 and 27, 2014.

- Even though he's been held pointless since coming out of the holiday break, Dominik Simon still leads all AHL rookies in scoring with 27 points (11G-16A).

- The Penguins' 35 shots on Sunday was the most without scoring in a home game since Chad Johnson's 41 stops in regulation and OT for Connecticut on Oct. 9, 2011.
