Ontario, CA - The Ontario Reign, proud American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL), take on the Stockton Heat tonight at 7:00 p.m. PT at Stockton Arena in Stockton, California. Tonight is the third of 12 meetings between the two teams this season.
Busy Week:
The Ontario Reign skate in four games over six days this week starting tonight. The Reign host the Heat on New Year's Eve and welcome the Charlotte Checkers to Citizens Business Bank Arena on Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. PT.
The Last Time We Met:
The Reign are 2-0-0-0 against the Heat this season and skated away with a 2-1 victory in their last meeting on November 25 in Ontario, California. Reign forward Jordan Samuels-Thomas leads the series with three goals (hat trick in first meeting on Nov. 7 at Stockton) and three points.
Eliminating Scoring Chances:
The Reign defense, ranked first in the AHL in overall goals-against average (1.96) and second in shots-against average (24.58), face a Heat squad that averages 35.71 shots per game, the highest in the league. Heat leading scorer Derek Grant enters tonight's game on a five-game point streak (four goals, four assists).
Milestone Watch:
Tonight is Reign team captain Vincent LoVerde's 300th professional game and forward Curt Gogol's 200th pro contest tonight. Ontario Reign Head Coach Mike Stothers is three wins away from 100 as a professional head coach. Reign defenseman Jeff Schultz is four games from 600 in his pro career.
