Monsters Topple Marlies, 2-1
December 29, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
CLEVELAND - In front of 12,097 fans at The Q and clad in specialty Cavaliers-themed jerseys on Cavs Night, Cleveland's Lake Erie Monsters outlasted the AHL's top team, the Toronto Marlies, on Tuesday by a final score of 2-1. With the win, the Monsters improved to 17-9-2-2 overall this season and with a .633 points percentage, remain alone in fourth place in the AHL's Central Division standings.
After a scoreless opening frame, T.J. Tynan made it 1-0 Monsters at 12:55 of the middle period when Lake Erie's leading scorer waited out Toronto goaltender Antoine Bibeau to the left post and buried his second of the season thanks to even-strength feeds from Kerby Rychel and Jan Hejda.
In the third, Lake Erie blue-liner Michael Paliotta wasted no time in rifling home his fourth tally of the year, a power-play snipe from the right point set up by Joe Devin and Josh Anderson, to make it 2-0 Monsters. The Marlies scrapped across their lone Tuesday goal at 15:34 of the final stanza thanks to rookie forward Nikita Soshnikov, but it wasn't enough as the Monsters held on for a 2-1 victory in the first of four meetings between Lake Erie and Toronto this season.
Monsters net-minder Anton Forsberg stopped 19 of the 20 pucks he faced on Tuesday to improve to 12-5-2 overall in net for Lake Erie this season while Bibeau allowed two goals on 30 shots for Toronto in defeat.
Next up for the Monsters, it's a New Year's Eve road rematch vs. the Marlies on Thursday with full coverage underway from Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto at 3:00 pm on AM 1420 The Answer and the Monsters Hockey Network.
