Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators completed their third period comeback with a 2-1 shootout victory over the visiting Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Matt Puempel scored the lone regulation goal for the B-Sens before netting the only score in the shootout to help Binghamton push their winning streak to four games.

Lehigh Valley opened the scoring during the game's first power-play chance 10:39 into the opening period. Andrew MacDonald scored his fifth of the year after he sent a slap shot from the deep point that caught the back of a B-Sens' skater and wound up behind Matt O'Connor. The Phantoms held onto the one-goal lead and skated into the first intermission outshooting their hosts 17-8.

The B-Sens increased the pressure through the second period outshooting the Phantoms 15-11, but failed to solve Anthony Stolarz. With just under three minutes remaining in the frame, O'Connor left for the Senators dressing room following a flurry of tough acrobatic saves to keep the deficit at just 1-0. Chris Driedger came in to replace the B-Sens starter stopping the lone shot he faced.

Puempel evened the score just 1:08 into the final frame of regulation after he redirected a shot from Michael Kostka past Stolarz for his tenth goal of the year. Binghamton had plenty of chances to win it in regulation outshooting the Phantoms 14-9 over the third, but Stolarz continued his strong play to force overtime.

Driedger stopped all three shootout attempts by the Phantoms finishing with 12 saves on 12 shots faced to earn the victory. O'Connor stopped 26 of 27 shots before his early exit while Stolarz stopped 39 of 40 shots faced in the loss.
