Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers suffered an 8-0 shutout loss to the Omaha Storm Chasers at Cheney Stadium on Wednesday night
Omaha broke open a scoreless affair and pulled ahead for good with a two-run frame in the top of the fourth. Outfielder Brian Fletcher lined single to right field that drove in Max Ramirez with two outs, and second baseman Pedro Ciriaco added another run with an RBI single in the Storm Chasers next at-bat.
A fielding error at shortstop cleared the way for Quintin Berry to score and make it 3-0 in the fifth before the Storm Chasers rifled off five runs on six hits in the seventh. Ramirez, Ciriaco, Berry, Chrisitian Colon and Ben Broussard all drove in runs during a big inning for Omaha.
Tacoma equaled a season-low after being held to two hits in the contest. Abraham Almonte and Ty Kelly recorded singles in back-to-back at-bats in the third to highlight the Rainiers night at the plate.
Starter Blake Beavan (4-4) was dealt the loss after surrendering three runs, two earned, on seven hits over six innings in his 10th turn in the Rainiers rotation this season. The right-hander struck out one and issued one walk.
Stephen Pryor, making his fourth appearance of a Major League rehab assignment with the Rainiers, allowed five runs on five hits and one walk in the seventh. Prior to tonight's appearance, the right-hander had yet to allow a run over 23.0 innings (19 G) with Tacoma since making his Triple-A debut on May 8, 2012.
The Rainiers (60-52) host the third game of a four-game series with Omaha (55-57) at 7 p.m. tomorrow, August 1. Left-hander James Paxton (7-8, 4.17) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against Storm Chasers left-hander Everett Teaford (3-2, 2.78).
