Padres Dropped by Memphis in 10

August 1, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Padres News Release

Ryan Jackson's pinch-hit sacrifice fly in the tenth inning gave the Memphis Redbirds a 2-1 walk-off victory over the Tucson Padres Thursday at AutoZone Park. The Padres are now 6-4 in extra-inning contests this season and remain two games back of first place in the Southern Division.

Tucson went ahead 1-0 in the top of the first on Brandon Allen's two-out RBI single. After Matt Andriese held the Redbirds scoreless for the first five innings of the game, Kolten Wong's RBI single in the sixth knotted the score at one. Memphis had an opportunity to take the lead later that inning on a potential sacrifice fly from Jamie Romak, but Allen threw out Jermaine Curtis trying to score from third. Justin Christian started the tenth inning with an infield single and later scored on Jackson's sacrifice fly to seal the victory for the Redbirds.

The Memphis bullpen didn't allow any runs and surrendered only one hit in the final five innings, including two scoreless frames from Sam Freeman, who earned his sixth win of the season. Brad Boxberger was charged with his fourth loss for Tucson. Andriese went eight innings, scattering six hits, no walks and one run. The right-hander threw 92 pitches and had four strikeouts.

Next Game: Friday, 5:05 p.m. at Memphis (Cardinals affiliate) - Tucson RHP Burch Smith (3-1, 3.13) vs. Memphis RHP Carlos Martinez (3-2, 1.76). Game coverage begins at 4:55 pm on 1290 AM The Source and tucsonpadres.com.
