Sacramento River Cats News Release
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Shane Peterson, Michael Choice and Michael Taylor hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning of Sacramento's 5-1 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Wednesday night at Raley Field.
This is the second time this year the River Cats hit three consecutive home runs. The feat was last accomplished on May 25 in Tucson, Ariz. at Kino Stadium when Choice, Scott Moore and Jeremy Barfield homered in three-straight at-bats.
The River Cats capitalized first off Peterson's double down the left-field line, scoring infielder Jemile Weeks. Then, Daric Barton scored off a groundout from Choice to give the River Cats a two-run lead in the first. In the sixth, outfielder Chili Buss singled to center field, scoring outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr., giving the Isotopes their only run of the game as they eventually lost, 5-1.
River Cats starter Travis Banwart (7-5, 4.75 ERA) picked up the win, allowing one run on four hits in 5.2 innings of work, while throwing 106 pitches. Weeks scored his 79th run of the season, good for second most in the Pacific Coast League. Behind him is Taylor (78), and first in line is Reno Aces infielder Chris Owings (88).
Choice went 2-for-4, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Anthony Aliotti and catcher David Freitas had two-hit nights of their own, while Peterson went 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Taylor finished 1-for-4, adding his 16th home run on the season.
The loss was charged to Isotopes lefty Rob Rasmussen (0-6, 5.98 ERA) who was on the mound for 4.1 innings, giving up seven of the 13 River Cats hits, including five earned runs on 93 pitches.
The River Cats continue their four-game series against the Isotopes at Raley Field on Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday, when right-hander Arnold Leon (1-2, 5.76 ERA) takes on righty Angel Castro (6-2, 3.73 ERA) at 7:05 p.m. during Bloodsource Night.
