Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders resumed the Iron Rail Rivalry on Tuesday night at PNC Field. After rallying back from a 3-0 deficit, the RailRiders completed the comeback with a walk-off walk by Vince Conde to win 4-3.
Drew Anderson returned to the mound after missing the first six weeks of the season with a forearm strain. Anderson was perfect though the first four frames, including two strikeouts. He went 4 2/3 in his 2018 debut and allowed three runs but did not earn a decision.
The Pigs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth against RailRiders starter Nestor Cortes. With one out in the fourth, Mitch Walding broke the scoreless tie with the Pigs' first hit -- his sixth home run of the year.
Trevor Plouffe followed Walding with his fourth double of the season and later scored on an RBI single by Joey Meneses. A fifth-inning sac fly by Collin Cowgill added a third run to the Pigs' lead.
The RailRiders struck for three runs in the bottom in the fifth. Adam Lind ended Anderson's perfect game when he blasted his first home run of the season to put Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on the board. The RailRiders added two more to tie the score and chase Anderson from the ballgame.
Austin Davis came on to retire the final batter of the inning to keep the game tied at three. Davis and Thompson combined to toss 3 1/3 one-hit innings.
With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the RailRiders loaded the bases against Tom Windle (2-2). Vince Conde worked a walk to bring home LJ Mazzilli and win Game 1 for the RailRiders.
The Iron Rail Rivalry continues tomorrow night in Moosic at 6:35 p.m. Enyel De Los Santos takes the ball for the IronPigs against right-hander Chance Adams for the RailRiders.
The Pigs return home Monday night for a four-game series against IL-North opponent Rochester.
