
RailRiders erase early deficit to defeat Lehigh Valley 4-3

MOOSIC, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders scored their fourth walk-off win of the season with a 4-3 triumph over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Tuesday night at PNC Field. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, Tom Windle walked Vince Conde to plate L.J. Mazzilli with the winning run. It was the third walk-off win of the month for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Lehigh Valley got on the board in the top of the fourth when Mitch Walding lifted a solo home run to centerfield against Nestor Cortes. Trevor Plouffe followed with a double and scored two batters later on a Joey Meneses RBI single to take a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth, the IronPigs extended the lead to 3-0 on a sacrifice fly from Collin Cowgill. Cortes settled down after the turbulence to turn in his best start of the season. He turned in a season-high 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits, walking one and striking out a season-high eight batters.
The RailRiders offense broke out against Drew Anderson in the top of the fourth, when Adam Lind led off with his first home run of the season. With one out, Zack Zehner legged out a triple and scored on a double from Ryan McBroom. Rey Navarro drove in McBroom with a single for his first RBI with the RailRiders to tie the game at 3-3.
Joe Harvey contributed 1.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the RailRiders, while Cale Coshow and Cody Carroll provided scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth, respectively, to keep the game tied.
In the bottom of the ninth, Mike Ford singled with one out and was pinch run for by Mazzilli. Zehner walked before McBroom grounded out to advance the runners to second and third before Windle walked Navarro to load the bases. Vince Conde worked the count full before taking ball four low and inside to plate the winning run.
Carroll (2-0) got the win for the RailRiders in relief, while Windle (2-2) was tagged with the loss. After a season-high 14 strikeout performance on Sunday afternoon, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre struck out 12 batters on Tuesday.
The RailRiders continue their three-game series with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Wednesday night at PNC Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. RHP Chance Adams (0-2, 5.67) takes the mound for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while Lehigh Valley counters with RHP Enyel De Los Santos (4-0, 0.84).
