Syracuse Mets News Release
Rochester, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs dropped the series opener to the Rochester Red Wings, 9-1, Tuesday night at Frontier Field. The Chiefs allowed a season-high 19 hits in the loss. Matt Hague homered in the loss, his first as a Chief.
Rochester (17-15) started the scoring in the first with a three-run inning. Zack Granite led off the game against Cesar Vargas with a single and Ryan LaMarre followed with a triple to right center to give the Red Wings a 1-0 lead. Jake Cave then doubled home LaMarre for a 2-0 advantage. Three batters later, Brock Stassi singled to score Cave from third and push the lead to three.
Syracuse (18-17) scratched the scoreboard when Hague crushed a home run over the wall in left field to make the score 3-1.
But the Red Wings answered right back. LaMarre doubled to start the fifth inning, and Kennys Vargas singled him in for a 4-1 lead.
The Wings broke the game open in the sixth. Taylor Featherston singled to start the inning and Granite singled with one out. Again it was LaMarre who doubled home both runners to push the advantage to 6-1. From there Kennys Vargas singled home LaMarre, and Stassi hammered an RBI single to center to plate Vargas for a 8-1 lead.
Rochester added a ninth run in the seventh. With the bases loaded, LaMarre grounded into a force out to score Featherston from third for his fourth RBI of the day.
The Chiefs and Red Wings continue the series Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Tommy Milone is scheduled to start for Syracuse opposite LHP Dietrich Enns for Rochester.
