Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The ECHL announced today that Gladiators head coach Jeff Pyle was named one of four coached for the 2004 Coors Light ECHL All Star game in Reading, P.A. as the Co-Coach of the American Conference.
Selected by a vote of league coaches, Pyle makes his second coaching trip to the ECHL All Star game after serving as a co-coach for Western Conference squad in last season's ECHL All Star game in Peoria, Illinois.
Pyle guided the Gladiators to a Central Division Championship beating the Louisiana IceGators in 4 games before losing in the Western Conference Finals to the eventual Kelly Cup Champion Idaho Steelheads.
Under Pyle's guidance, the Gladiators set team records for points with 92, wins with 42, and home wins with 42 during the team's inaugural season in Gwinnett.
Pyle was head coach and director of hockey operations for the Mobile Mysticks from1998-2002 before the team voluntarily suspended operations in preparation for its move to Gwinnett. Pyle had a 137-113-34 record in Mobile, advancing to the Kelly Cup Playoffs three times in four seasons, including 2001 when the Mysticks lost in double overtime to Kelly Cup Champion South Carolina in the Southern Conference Semifinals.
Pyle becomes just the third coach to be selected to the ECHL All Star game as a coach in consecutive years, joining Doug Shedden (LA, 1998 & 1999) and Rick Vaive (SC, 1997 & 1998).
The Central Division Champion Gwinnett Gladiators continue their second season on the road against the Augusta Lynx on Friday, January 7th at 7:35 p.m. The Gladiators offer several ticket packages for different needs as well as group outings, suites and birthday parties. The Gladiators play all 36 home games at the Arena at Gwinnett Center located on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth and are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers.
