Fresno Falcons Weekly Update

January 4, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release

LAST WEEK'S RECORD: 2-2-1 OVERALL RECORD: 14-13-3, 31 pts.

December 28 @ Peoria, 3-1 Loss - Shaun Sutter cut the Rivermen's 2-0 lead in half early in the second period by deflecting a Simon Mangos wrist shot, but Fresno never found the equalizer as Peoria added an insurance goal with under three minutes to play in the third to seal the Falcons' fate.

December 29 @ Peoria, 4-3 Overtime Loss - The Falcons held leads of 2-1 and 3-2 in the third period, the latter courtesy of an unassisted, short-handed goal from captain Dan Tessier. But Peoria tied the game at three 16 seconds after Tessier's tally while still skating on the power play and clinched the two-game sweep with the game-winner 1:36 into overtime.

December 31 @ Wheeling, 4-3 Loss - Fresno spotted the Nailers a 4-0 lead mid-way through the second period before the Falcons scored a pair of power play goals 51 seconds apart late in the period to pull within 4-2 as the teams entered the third. Fresno would make it a one-goal game with six minutes remaining in regulation, but the Falcons fell short despite a wide open chance that narrowly missed right at the buzzer.

January 1 @ Johnstown, 5-4 Win - After a failed comeback bid the night before, Fresno overcame three one-goal deficits at the storied War Memorial Arena in Johnstown, capped by Curtis Sheptak's one-timer from the point that went top shelf with 1:19 remaining in the third period.

January 2 @ Wheeling, 3-2 Shootout Win - Goaltender Jamie Hodson made a season-high 46 saves and the Falcons' penalty killers thwarted all nine Nailers power plays to keep Fresno within a goal late in the third. Derek Krestanovich then sent home a perfect feed from Jason Weaver at 17:31 to force overtime and eventually a shootout, which Fresno won with goals from Simon Mangos, Sam Ftorek and Shaun Sutter.
