January 4, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (January 4, 2005) â The ECHL announced on Tuesday that Mike Haviland, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations for the Trenton Titans, has been named to coach the National Conference for the 2005 Coors Light ECHL All-Star Game. Haviland joins Atlantic City's Matt Thomas as co-coach of the National Conference squad. Thomas was selected as a result of having the best winning percentage in their respective division through games of January 2, while Haviland was chosen by a vote of league coaches.
"It's an honor to be chosen to coach in the ECHL All-Star Game," stated Haviland. "I'm looking forward to the opportunity to help represent the National Conference and the Trenton Titans."
This marks the second All-Star appearance for the Titans' coach. Haviland, who was head coach of Atlantic City at the time, was co-coach of the North when it defeated the South 8-2 in 2003.
Haviland becomes the third Titans coach in six years to be behind the bench at an ECHL All-Star Game. Troy Ward was a first-year coach in the league when he was chosen for the 2001 All-Star Game. Peter Horachek was named to the All-Star staff in 2002.
Sponsored by Coors Light and hosted by the Reading Royals, the 13th Annual ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition will be held at the 7,215-seat Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa. The Skills Competition is January 25 at 7:05 p.m. and the All-Star Game is January 26 at 7:05 p.m.
The starting lineup and roster for the American Conference All-Star Team will be announced on Wednesday and the starting lineup and roster for the National Conference All-Star will be announced on Thursday.
