January 4, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO â The San Diego Gulls announced Tuesday that Sean O'Connor has been named the Kristy's MVP/Stewart Benjamin Jewelry Player of the Month for December. O'Connor will be presented the award in a pre-game ceremony before Saturday's game.
O'Connor led the team last month with 11 goals, 16 points and a plus-minus rating of +11. He notched three game-winning goals in December, which is tops overall on the Gulls. O'Connor also had a five-game point streak in which he tallied 11 points (7g, 4a) and netted his first career hat trick Dec. 11 against the Alaska Aces.
The 6-foot-3-inch, 203-pound native of Victoria, British Columbia is third overall on San Diego with 17 points (12g, 5a). After playing in the Gulls' first two games this season, O'Connor was called up to the American Hockey League's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks. He re-joined the Blue and Orange on Nov. 30.
O'Connor split time last season with the AHL's San Antonio Rampage and ECHL's Augusta Lynx. He began his professional career in 2002-03, splitting the season with San Antonio and the ECHL's Jackson Bandits. Before turning pro, O'Connor spent three years playing juniors in the Western Hockey League. He was a third round selection of the Florida Panthers in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
The Gulls start another busy week Tuesday in Las Vegas, with game-time against the Wranglers set for 7:05 p.m. San Diego comes back home Wednesday to face Peoria Rivermen, which is another "Wacky Wednesday," featuring "American Idol â Gulls Style." The Gulls will then play in Fresno Friday night before hosting the Falcons Saturday, which is Golf Night. The first 8,000 fans in attendance Saturday will receive special Gulls golf balls.
All games can be heard live on KLSD 1360AM and www.sandiegogulls.com with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play.
