Providence Bruins Ice WBS Penguins, 3-2

February 28, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release

PROVIDENCE, RI- The Providence Bruins iced the WBS Penguins with 50 shots on goal and came away with a 3-2 win against the #1 team in the Atlantic Division.

The Penguins jumped out to an early lead when a sloppy power play break-in resulted in a short handed goal for Carter Rowney. Despite being down 1-0, the P-Bruins looked nearly dominant throughout the period, firing 29 shots at Tristan Jarry - the most by any AHL team in a single period since February 25th 2012.

The P-Bruins finally broke through on their 28th shot, when Colton Hargrove controlled the puck down the left wing and hit Colby Cave with a centering pass and deflected the puck just over the goal line. Chris Breen was also credited with an assist.

Noel Acciari potted the go-ahead goal 6:03 into the second period when Jarry let up a turnover and Acciari rushed the net to capitalize. The P-Bruins finished the second period with 43 shots on goal and leading 2-1.

Seth Griffith scored the eventual game winner early in the third. Linus Arnesson sent the puck to Cave who brought the puck into the offensive zone then set Griffith up on the right wing. His wrist shot went bar down, glove-side on Jarry. This marked Griffith's 19th goal of the season and is once again tied for most points in the AHL.

In the second half of the third period there were three fights: Hargrove vs Kostopoulos, Camara vs McCarron, and a center ice melee after Mouillierat's blatant open ice cross check against Seth Griffith. P-Bruins recorded the take-down in all fights.

The Penguins scored another short handed goal with under 2 minutes to play, but it was not enough to catch up to the P-Bruins.

The Providence Bruins are back at home this Friday March 4th against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
