San Jose Barracuda News Release
San Diego, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (23-18-6-3, 55pts) presented by Barracuda Networks lost to the San Diego Gulls (27-20-1-2, 57pts) by the score of 5-2 in front of 9,678 fans at Valley View Casino Resort on Saturday night.
Goals by John McCarthy (10th) and Trevor Parkes (12th) were not enough for the Barracuda to mount a comeback in San Diego. After going down 2-0 in the first period, a strong and fast start to the second period saw the Barracuda cut the lead in half when McCarthy (1-01) scored on the power play. San Jose controlled the play for much of the period, but unfortunately, the Gulls scored twice more to increase the lead to 4-1. Trevor Parkes (1-01) scored 26 seconds into the third period to give the Barracuda some hope of a comeback. But a stingy San Diego defense shut the door and closed out the game.
Bryan Lerg (0-11) had another strong performance as did Jeremy Langlois, who had a game-high six shots on goal. Troy Grosenick saved 21 of 25 shots on the night in a solid performance.
San Jose outshot San Diego in every period of the game with San Jose putting 21 shots on net in the second period. The Barracuda ended the game outshooting the Gulls 43-26 on the night. Both teams exchanged power play goals in the second period.
Nick Kerdiles (2-02), Chris Wagner (2-02), Chris Mueller (0-22) and Stefan Noesen (0-22) were the only players to record more than one point on the night. The Gulls power-play, ranked 5th going into the game, finished 1-for-2 on the man advantage. Anton Khudobin stopped 41 shots to earn the victory.
