FLORENCE, SC – The Pee Dee Pride today announced that, in conjunction with the National Hockey League and the East Coast Hockey League, they will be participating in "Hockey is for Everyone" Month during the month of February.

During this first-ever "Hockey is for Everyone" Month, the NHL and the ECHL invite fans to celebrate the diversity of the sport. The growing diversity of the sport is evident in the 23 different countries represented on NHL rosters. NHL teams are marking the event in several ways. Included in these events are members of the Pittsburgh Penguins visiting elementary schools to address students on cultural diversity; the New York Islanders conducting an essay contest where young fans will be asked to write about what diversity means to them; and several teams will be hosting underprivileged children at their home games.

The Pride will undertake several initiatives during the month of February to commemorate "Hockey is for Everyone" Month. Members of the Boys and Girls Club of the Pee Dee Area will be in attendance at Pride home games on February 13th, 15th and 23rd. Posters and other "Hockey is for Everyone" items will be available at the Customer Service Table on the concourse at these games. In addition, Pride players will visit the Boys and Girls Club on February 20th and 26th to teach and play street hockey with the youngsters.

"Hockey is proud of its place in America, in that it is the most diverse professional sport in the United States," Pride Senior Vice President Jack Capuano said. "Our organization is proud to join the NHL, AHL and the ECHL in recognizing this fact, and perhaps bringing our sport to new fans who have not had the opportunity to experience it before."

The Pride have sported a diverse roster since their arrival in Florence six seasons ago. Players from the United States, Canada, Quebec, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Latvia have suited up for the Pride.

Pee Dee continues its seven-game road trip this weekend, playing at Columbia on Saturday night. The Pride will return home on Thursday, February 13th, to host the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for that game, and all remaining Pride home games, are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333.
