Peoria's Michaud Named Sun National Bank East Coast Hockey League Saver of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Alfie Michaud of the Peoria Rivermen is the Sun National Bank East Coast Hockey League Saver of the Month for January.

Peoria's Mathieu Chouinard won the Saver of the Month award in December.

The 26-year-old Michaud was 7-0-1 with one shutout, a 1.85 goals against average and a .940 save percentage as Peoria went 11-0-1 in January. Michaud was signed by Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League on Monday joining the team on Tuesday.

In his first four games in January, Michaud was 4-0 with a shutout, a 1.75 goals against average and a .920 save percentage. He made 29 saves in a 2-1 shootout loss at Lexington on January 24 and then went 3-0 with a 1.65 goals against average and a .949 save percentage in his final three starts.

In his fourth professional season, Michaud is 11-1-2 with one shutout, a 1.98 goals against average and a .935 save percentage in 14 games with Peoria. Michaud, who ranks second in the ECHL in save percentage, would lead the ECHL in goals against average had he played enough minutes to qualify.

Michaud was 5-3-2 with a 2.58 goals against average in 11 games with Reading of the ECHL in 2001-02 and 16-10-1 with a 2.68 goals against average in 32 games with Manitoba of the AHL. He was 14-14-2 with a 3.14 goals against average in 32 games with Kansas City of the International Hockey League in 2000-01. He began his professional career in 1999-2000 going 10-17-5 with a 3.86 goals against average in 38 games with Syracuse of the AHL and also appeared in two games with Vancouver of the National Hockey League going 0-1-0 with a 4.35 goals against average.
