Bakersfield Condors News Release
Anchorage, Alaska - Anchorage scored twice on the power play in the third period to erase a one-goal deficit and skate to a 4-3 win over the Bakersfield Condors in front of 1,749 fans at Sullivan Arena on Tuesday night.
The Aces took the advantage with an early power play goal, as Yvan Corbin potted a rebound from the top of Kevin St. Pierre's goal crease to make it 1-0. But the WCHL Player of the Week, Christian Skoryna, added two goals of his own to turn the tide in the Condors favor. The winger tipped home a centering feed from Shawn Byram to make it 1-1 at 5:55. Skoryna then snapped home a wrist shot from the slot that squeezed through goaltender Christian Soucy for his second of the night at 13:11. The Condors led 2-1 after 20 minutes.
Both teams scored in the middle frame, as the Condors held the one-goal advantage through two periods. B.J. Young picked off a pass in the Condors end while shorthanded and skated in alone on St. Pierre, tucking a backhander home to tie the game at 2-2. Bakersfield responded, however, a few minutes later as Jason Ralph found Paul Rosebush driving down the slot, who buried the feed for the 3-2 lead. Bakersfield outshot the Aces 32-18 through 40 minutes.
In the third period, the Aces proved once again to be the Condors kryptonite, as they erased the deficit on the power play at 7:41. Dave Csumrik's wrist shot from the blue line found its way past St. Pierre to tie the contest. Three minutes and three seconds later, the Aces took the lead with Paul Williams' power play score. Bakersfield was held off the board over the remaining nine minutes, despite outshooting the Aces 39-25 in the game. The loss kept them from passing San Diego in the standings, as the Gulls were upended 8-3 in Fresno tonight, and they both remain tied for second place.
The Condors take on the Aces again on Wednesday night, an 8:00pm (PST) start. They head to San Diego to play the Gulls on Friday night in a 7:00pm matchup before returning to Centennial Garden on Saturday and Sunday nights. Saturday's game against Idaho features the return of the Blues Brothers, presented by FOX 98.5 and HealthSouth. Game time is 7:00pm. On Sunday, the Condors host the Long Beach Ice Dogs at 5:00pm for Cheer Sign Giveaway Night. Everyone in attendance will receive a Condors Cheer Sign, featuring a full color picture of defenseman Quinn Fair, sponsored by the Bakersfield Californian, Real Rock 104.3 and Coleman Homes.
Individual tickets can be purchased at the Centennial Garden Box Office, by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location. Season and group tickets may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Condors office next to Centennial Garden.
