Henkel Named Rookie of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Atlantic City forward Jim Henkel is the CCM East Coast Hockey League Rookie of the Month for January.

Scoring a point in all 12 of Atlantic City's games in January, the 23-year-old Henkel led the team with 13 assists and 20 points while helping the Bullies go 8-3-1 and remain in first place in the Northeast Division. In his first professional season, Henkel has an ECHL season-high 17-game scoring streak (10g-18a). He also has a 13-game road scoring streak that ties him with teammate Kevin Colley for the longest road scoring streak in the ECHL in 2002-03. Henkel has 21 points (11g-10a) during the road streak that began December 1 at Richmond.

Selected in the eighth round (217th overall) by Los Angeles in the 1998 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Henkel had five multiple-point games in January and he has nine multiple-point games in 2002-03.

The Hazlet, N.J. native is tied for the lead among ECHL rookies with three shorthand goals while ranking third in goals (22), tied for third in game-winning goals (4) and fourth in scoring (48).

The 6-2 and 190-pound Henkel leads Atlantic City with four game-winning goals while ranking second on the team with 22 goals, third with 48 points and fourth with 26 assists and five power-play goals in 45 games.

He also played in the Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game picking up an assist and finishing +2 while helping the Northern Conference to an 8-2 in on January 21 in Estero, Fla.
