Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - Starting Pitcher Aaron Pribanic (4-1) earned his fourth win of the season with a seven-inning, complete-game shutout performance in Game 1 of the doubleheader for the Curve as they topped the Aeros, 2-0. Despite the shutout in the first game, Akron came back in the second to defeat Altoona, 8-1. The Curve now have four shutout wins in 2011 and they have all been by the score of 2-0.

Pribanic allowed only six hits and did not walk a batter over his seven-inning complete game. The Fairfax, Va. native has now pitched two straight scoreless outings at home and hasn't allowed a run in his last 13.2 IP. All four of the right hander's wins have come at home as he has only allowed three earned runs all season long at Blair County Ballpark in 29 innings pitched. The complete game shutout is the fourth thrown this season in the Eastern League.

The Curve got on the board in the second inning of Game 1 as Jeremy Farrell singled with one out and was brought home on a single by Eric Fryer after a wild pitch put him in scoring position. The Curve then doubled their lead in the third as Starling Marte hit his third home run of the season, a solo shot to left, to give the Curve a 2-0 lead. The score would remain the same as neither team scored in the final four innings of play.

In the second game, Curve starter Bryan Morris returned to the starting rotation after missing time on the disabled list to make the start. The Woodbury, Tenn. native went 3.0 innings in his first start back, allowing just one hit and one run with two walks and three strikeouts. Morris started the fourth inning and allowed a single and a walk before being lifted from the game. The Aeros would then score three batters later on a bases loaded walk to take a 1-0 lead.

The run broke the Curve's 19.2-inning streak without allowing a run.

Akron then added three in the fifth and four more in the seventh off the Curve bullpen. Altoona's only run in the second game came off the bat of Fryer, who smacked his fourth home run of the year in the fifth to bring the Curve within three at the time.

The Curve (21-20) and the Aeros (21-22) will play the last of their seven straight games against each other at Blair County Ballpark on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. before the Bowie Baysox come to town. For the Curve, LHP Aaron Thompson (2-4, 4.19) will walk to the hill looking to rebound from a tough outing last week in Akron. He will be opposed by LHP Matt Packer (1-5, 4.50) for the Aeros, who will be looking to draw a series split.

Before the game, the Curve will host their third and final Youth Baseball Clinic, which is free to fans 14 and younger with the purchase of a ticket to the game on Sunday. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the clinic, run by the Curve players and coaching staff, will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. For the game, kids will be jumping for joy because they'll play for free in the Galliker's Fun Zone and Weis Playland all-game long courtesy of Butler Restoration Services. They can also run the bases after the game.

Game time is set for 2 p.m. with gates to Blair County Ballpark opening at 1 p.m. Great seats for the ballgame are still available by calling the Curve at 877.99.CURVE or by visiting the official website of the Curve, www.AltoonaCurve.com. Pregame coverage on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network will begin at 1:30 p.m.
