Power Shutout 3-0 by Suns
April 26, 2011 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
HIGHLIGHTS: The West Virginia Power were shutout 3-0 by the Hagerstown Suns Monday evening at Appalachian Power Park. Cameron Selik and Christopher Manno combined to limit the Power to seven hits and send West Virginia to its sixth straight loss.
The Suns gained a 1-0 lead in the first. Randolph Oduber doubled off Zack Dodson to start the game and scored on an error. David Freitas hit a ground ball back to Dodson with two outs, but the pitcher could not make the play and Oduber scored to stake the Suns to the early advantage. Hagerstown added runs off Dodson in the fourth and fifth innings on base hits by Michael Taylor and Wade Moore.
The Power had runners on base in each of the first four innings and in six of nine overall, but couldn't string together base hits to bring home any runs against Selik, who has pitched 23 consecutive scoreless innings to begin his South Atlantic League career.
Dodson (1-2) took the loss despite lowering his earned run average during the game, while Selik (2-0) garnered the win. Manno pitched the ninth, allowing a leadoff single before striking out the next three, for his second save.
Justin Howard had the lone multi-hit game for West Virginia, while Justin Martinson paced Hagerstown with three hits. Bryce Harper, the first overall selection during the 2010 draft by the Washington Nationals, went 0-3 with a walk.
The Power and Suns continue this five-game set on Tuesday at 7:05 pm. Tyler Waldron and Matt Grace are the slated starters for West Virginia and Hagerstown, respectively. Gates at Appalachian Power Park will open at 6:00 pm.
POWER RECORD: 6-11
