Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws stormed out of the gates Tuesday night scoring 8 runs in the first 2 innings, and they never looked back as they breezed to an easy 11-1 win over the Charleston RiverDogs on Tuesday in Lakewood. The BlueClaws smacked 4 Home Runs in the ballgame, 2 by 1B Jim Murphy, and SP David Buchanan threw 7 shutout innings en route to his 3rd victory of the season. The win is the second in a row for Lakewood as they move to 8-10 on the season, and 5-4 at home so far in 2011.
Buchanan was spectacular on the mound for Lakewood as he scattered 7 hits in his 7 innings, walked 1, struck out 3, and didn't allow a single run in moving to 3-0 on the year. RHP's Garett Claypool and Hector Neris each pitched an inning of relief in the win for the BlueClaws. The only run allowed by Lakewood was an unearned run that scored with 2 outs in the top of the 9th inning on an error by the 1B Geancarlo Mendez.
The story of the game however was Lakewood 1B Jim Murphy. He was 3-4 on the day with 2 HR's, 6 RBI, 3 runs scored, and 1 walk. He hit his team leading 5th and 6th homers of the year, and his 19th and 20th as a BlueClaw. His 20 HR's with Lakewood ties him with Ryan Howard for 2nd all-time as a BlueClaw just 2 behind Juan Richardson for the most in team history. 2B Jeremy Barnes was 3-4 in the game as well with 3 runs scored. SS Edgar Duran hit his first career Home Run with a solo shot off the RiverDogs starter LHP Kramer Sneed in the 2nd inning.
Tomorrow it will be day game baseball at FirstEnergy Park as the BlueClaws and RiverDogs will take the field for an 11:05 am First Pitch. The first 2,000 fans 17 & under will receive Oversized Baseball Cards thanks to the Asbury Park Press, and there will be a Pre-game Baseball & Science Show by Wondergy for all fans in attendance. LHP Jesse Biddle (0-2, 5.54 ERA) will get the start for Lakewood, and it will be RHP Zach Nuding (2-0, 4.61 ERA) on the mound for Charleston.
