Lexington Legends News Release
The Kannapolis Intimidators jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and went on to beat the Lexington Legends 13-6 Tuesday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
Legends starter Brad Dydalewicz hit Trayce Thompson with the first pitch of the game. Mt. Sterling native and former Morehead State star Drew Lee doubled to score Thompson. A wild pitch moved Lee to third, from where he scored on a double by Brady Shoemaker. Two ground ball outs brought Shoemaker in to give the Intimidators a 3-0 lead.
With one out in the top of the second inning, Rafael Vera and Kyle Eveland singled, and Thompson followed with a home run to left center, his sixth of the year, to make the score 6-0. The Legends scored on Daniel Adamson's RBI single in the bottom of the second, but Kannapolis answered with a run in the fourth.
Lexington rallied with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. A walk to Chris Wallace, a single by Mike Kvasnicka and a double by Adamson produced one run. Roberto Pena's sacrifice fly, caught in foul territory by right fielder Ryan Hammer, brought Kvasnicka home with the second run. Ben Orloff's two-out single scored Adamson, cutting the Kannapolis lead to three at 7-4.
But the Intimidators struck for two runs in the fifth and four in the seventh, three of those coming on a homer by Eveland.
The Legends added single runs in the seventh and ninth to close out the scoring. Adamson and Orloff each had three hits for Lexington.
Kannapolis starter Jake Petricka (2-0) worked the first five innings to get the win. He allowed eight hits, but struck out seven batters while walking two. Paul Burnside relieved Petricka in the sixth and finished the game to earn his first save.
Dydalewicz (0-3) was the losing pitcher.
Lee is now five-for-eight in the series, with a home run and five RBI.
The two teams meet Wednesday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in the third game of a five game series. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Attendance - 2,348
