CEDAR PARK, TX - Austin Poganski notched a three-point game and Nolan Stevens netted his first professional goal to help power the San Antonio Rampage (8-12-0) to their fifth consecutive win with a 4-3 victory over the Texas Stars (7-8-2) on Saturday night at the HEB Center at Cedar Park.
Ville Husso made 40 saves to earn his second win of the season, and first since the first game of the season. Mitch Reinke notched two assists to extend his points streak to six games. He has ten assists in his last 11 contests.
Adam Musil gave the Rampage a 1-0 lead at 9:36 of the first period, following up his own shot to backhand a rebound through the legs of Texas goaltender Philippe Desrosiers for his fourth goal of the season. It was the fifth time in the past six games that San Antonio scored the game's first goal.
The Stars tied the game at 13:35 of the first period with their first of three power play goals, as Erik Condra finished a rebound for his first of two goals on the night. San Antonio responded at 17:49 moments after the end of a Rampage power play. Jordan Nolan carried the puck behind the net and fed Stevens at the bottom of the right circle for a quick shot that trickled through Desrosiers for his first professional tally and a 2-1 Rampage lead.
The Stars power play struck again at 2:19 of the second period, as Justin Dowling beat Husso with a one-timer from the slot for his fourth goal of the season to tie the game 2-2. The Rampage answered back 3:05 later when Reinke fed Tyler Wotherspoon at the point for a one-timer past Desrosiers, Wotherspoon's first goal of the season and first with the Rampage to make it 3-2.
The Rampage power play made it 4-2 at 7:23 of the second period when a hard point shot by Reinke was kicked out to the right circle and Poganski finished the rebound for this third goal of the season. The Rampage power play has converted in six consecutive games.
Condra pulled Texas back within a goal with his second power play goal of the game at 13:49 of the third period, another rebound goal for his seventh of the year and fifth this season against San Antonio. Texas would pull the goaltender for the final two minutes, but Husso secured the victory.
With the win, San Antonio has 16 points in the standings, pulling even with Texas and moving past San Diego and Ontario in the Western Conference. All three teams have games in hand on the Rampage.
The victory was San Antonio's second on the road this season.
The Rampage and Stars complete their three-in-three series on Sunday afternoon at the AT&T Center. Puck-drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT, with the game available on The Ticket 760AM and on AHLTV.
