Barracuda Earn Point in OT Loss at Colorado
November 24, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Jose Barracuda News Release
Loveland, CO - The San Jose Barracuda (10-3-1-1) erased a two-goal deficit on Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center to force overtime and earn a point but the Colorado Eagles (8-7-3-0) (Colorado Avalanche) collected the 4-3 win on a Scott Kosmachuk (6) tally three minutes and 30 seconds into OT.
Colorado drew first blood in the first at 4:23 as Dominic Toninato dropped a pass for Ty Lewis (3) along the right wing and Lewis fired the puck from the feet of several 'Cuda defenders past Antoine Bibeau to give Colorado the 1-0 lead. After snapping a 10-game goalless drought on Sunday, Alex True (3) made it back-to-back games with a tally as he shoveled in a Thomas Gregoire point-shot rebound at 8:17. Colorado would regain its lead when Eagles leading scorer Andrew Agozzino (9) jumped out the penalty box and wired a low wrister through Bibeau's five-hole on the power play at 12:17. J.C. Beaudin (5) would then cash in at 19:33 after Michael Joly's initial point-blank looked was denied, Beaudin was there to clean up the rebound.
In the second, Manny Wiederer (4) intercepted a cross-ice pass in his own end and beat Pavel Francouz on a shorthanded breakaway at 12:59. Later in the period, tempers would boil over when Travis Barron and Kyle Wood dropped the mitts behind the play at 14:22.
In the third, AJ Greer's check on Nick DeSimone, sent San Jose's defender into the Colorado bench, but it seemed to memorize the home team as Francis Perron (9) collected the puck a few moments later, went around the net and beat Francouz short side to tie the game at 4:28. The chippiness continued throughout the contest and again hit its tipping point when Jeffrey Viel and Mason Geersten fought at center ice in the early stages of the period.
After the game remained tied at 3-3 through 60 minutes, Colorado outshot San Jose four-to-one in OT and Kosmachuk sent the Eagles home with two points as he snuck a short-side wrister past Bibeau at 3:30 of the extra session.
Bibeau (4-2-2) suffered the loss after allowing four goals on 39 shots while Fracouz (8-4-1) earned his second consecutive win by making 31 saves on 34 shots.
The Barracuda and Eagles square off again in Loveland on Saturday before San Jose returns back to SAP Center on Tuesday, November 27 when they take on the Stockton Heat for Cuda Classroom Day (11 a.m.). Saturday's broadcast coverage kicks off at 5:35 p.m. PT on AM 1220 KDOW, the Sharks + SAP Center App, SJBarracuda.com/listen and on AHLTV.
