SAN ANTONIO, TX - Charlie Sampair and Jakub Jerabek scored for the second time in as many games and Mitch Reinke extended his points streak to five straight contests, as Los Chimuelos de San Antonio (7-12-0) earned their fourth consecutive victory with a 4-1 win over the Texas Stars (7-7-2) on Friday night in front of 6,253 fans at the AT&T Center
Jordan Binnington made 27 saves to earn his sixth win of the season, as Los Chimuelos won for the fifth time in their last six games on home ice.
Ryan Olsen opened the scoring for San Antonio with his fourth goal of the season, tied for the team lead, at 12:51 of the first period. With a delayed penalty pending on Texas, Jordan Nolan carried the puck into the Stars zone with speed and fed Chris Thorburn on the right wing. Thorburn dropped a pass to the top of the right circle for Olsen, who beat Texas goaltender Philippe Desrosiers to the blocker for a 1-0 Chimuelos lead.
At 5:05 of the second period, Sampair extended the lead with his second goal of the season in his second game with the team since being recalled from ECHL Tulsa. Adam Musil corralled a bouncing rebound at the bottom of the left circle and fed Sampair in the high slot for a one-timer that beat Desrosiers to the blocker.
Los Chimuelos survived four penalties in the second period, including 49 seconds of 5-on-3 penalty killing. Binnington made ten saves in the second period as the Stars power play went 0-for-6 on the night, ending a streak of six consecutive games with a power play goal for Texas.
San Antonio's streak of consecutive games with a power play goal reached five in the third period when Austin Poganski snuck a wrist shot through Desrosiers at 10:46 for his second goal of the season to make it 3-0. Jerabek would cap the scoring with nine seconds remaining, hitting the empty net from the neutral zone for his fourth goal of the season.
Justin Dowling snapped Binnington's shutout bid at 15:04 of the third period. With the Texas net empty, Dowling fired a shot from the right-wing boards that went through the legs of Stephen Perfetto and Tyler Wotherspoon before finding its way through Binnington for Dowling's fourth goal of the season to make it 3-1.
Reinke earned an assist on Poganski's goal, extending his points streak to five games. It is the longest points streak by a Rampage player this season. With the power play goal, San Antonio is converting at 27.3 percent on the power play over their last five home games.
San Antonio improved to 6-5-0 this season on home ice. They are two points shy of the Stars for seventh place in the Central Division.
The Rampage changed their identity to Los Chimuelos for the second time this season and are 1-1-0 as Los Chimuelos. They will change their identity three more times this season.
The Rampage head to Cedar Park on Saturday night to continue their three-in-three with the Stars, with puck-drop scheduled for 7 p.m. at the HEB Center at Cedar Park. The game is available on The Ticket 760AM and on AHLTV.
