Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, CO. - Eagles forward Scott Kosmachuk scored the game-winning goal 3:30 into overtime to lift Colorado to a 4-3 victory over the San Jose Barracuda on Friday. A.J. Greer collected a pair of assists, while Eagles goalie Pavel Francouz stopped 31 of the 34 shots he faced to earn his eighth win of the season.
Colorado would waste little time in claiming the game's first goal, as forward Ty Lewis would find himself on the receiving end of a give-and-go with fellow forward Dominic Toninato and Lewis would cap it off by sliding the puck into the net from the slot to give the Eagles a 1-0 edge just 4:22 into the contest.
The Barracuda would knot things up less than four minutes later when forward Alexander True skated through the low-slot before firing a shot past Francouz to tie the game at 1-1 at the 8:17 mark of the first period.
Forward Andrew Agozzino would put the Eagles back on top on the power play when he let a wrister go from the left circle that would light the lamp and give Colorado a 2-1 advantage with 7:43 remaining in the opening frame.
With less than 30 seconds to play in the game's first period, Eagles forward J.C Beaudin would snag a rebound off the right leg pad of San Jose goalie Antoine Bibeau and backhand a shot into the back of the net to extend Colorado's lead to 3-1.
Moving into the second period, the Barracuda would cut into the deficit when forward Manuel Wiederer created a turnover at his own blue line on the penalty kill, springing him on a breakaway down the ice where he would cut to the top of the crease and put the puck past Francouz. The goal would trim Colorado's lead to 3-2 at the 12:59 mark of the second stanza.
San Jose would tie the game at 3-3 just 4:28 into the third period when forward Francis Perron snapped a shot from the right circle that would light the lamp. The two teams would exchange chances throughout the final 15 minutes of regulation, but neither would find the back of the net and the Eagles and Barracuda would head to a sudden-death overtime.
The extra session would continue to see each team generate chances, but with 1:30 remaining in OT Kosmachuk would skate through the right circle before cutting to the low-slot and burying a shot past Bibeau to give Colorado the 4-3 victory. The win was the Eagles first overtime victory in the AHL.
Colorado outshot San Jose, 43-34 in the contest. The Eagles also went a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill, while scoring one power-play goal on three chances on the man-advantage.
The Eagles return to action when they play host to the San Jose Barracuda on Saturday, November 24th at 7:05pm at the Budweiser Events Center.
