P-Bruins Comeback from Early Hole to Stun Phantoms 6-3

Allentown, PA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Lehigh Valley Phantoms Saturday night 6-3 in their first trip of the season to the PPL Center. The P-Bruins got two goals apiece from Austin Fyten and Cameron Hughes along with goals from Jordan Szwarz and Ryan Fitzgerald while Dan Vladar made his eighth start of the season in net.
The Phantoms wasted no time taking an early lead, scoring just 38 seconds into the game. Providence turned the puck over in their zone right to Greg Carey at the point, and with room to shoot he blasted a shot by the glove of Vladar to give Lehigh Valley a 1-0 lead. That lead grew 29 seconds later when Nicolas Aube-Kubel converted a perfect Mark Friedman stretch pass into his fourth goal of the season. He beat his man up the right side, moved in close and got the puck through to make it 2-0 Phantoms 67 seconds into the game. The P-Bruins played well after the tough start, outshooting the Phantoms 13-6 in the period and cracking the scoreboard late thanks to good work from the fourth line. Zach Senyshyn fired a barrage of shots on goalie Carter Hart, who made some stops but could not cover the puck. Fyten backhanded a rebound in for his second goal of the year with 2:47 left in the period, making it a 2-1 game and giving Providence the momentum into the first intermission.
The P-Bruins rode that momentum to get the tying goal from Szwarz 2:42 into the second period. With Fitzgerald and Szwarz forechecking behind the net, the puck got away from a Phantoms defender to Szwarz in front. He went bar-down for his third goal of the season and the Providence captain knotted the game 2-2. Lehigh Valley regained the lead 2:04 later on Cole Bardreau's fourth goal of the season, as he knocked a Carsen Twarynski centering pass in with his knees to make it 3-2. Midway through the period, Fitzgerald tied it up again from the right dot, snapping his fifth goal of the season over the blocker of Hart to even things up 3-3. The P-Bruins grabbed their first lead of the night at 14:22 on a great individual effort from Hughes. He swiped the puck away from a Phantoms defender and flew towards the net. Dangling his way through another defender, he popped the puck over Hart's shoulder for his seventh goal of the season and the P-Bruins entered the break up 4-3.
Fyten's second goal of the game at 2:59 of the third extended the P-Bruins lead to 5-3 thanks to another puck that Hart could not cover up. Flying into the offensive zone, Emil Johansson fired a shot right on Hart that he thought was secured. However, the puck was loose in the crease and Fyten was there to clean up the mess. Providence put the final nail in the coffin at 7:14 behind the strength of another good forechecking effort. Karson Kuhlman and Hughes fought for the puck along the left boards and after gaining possession played give-and-go. In close, Hughes backhanded a shot in for his team-leading eighth goal of the season and the P-Bruins came away victorious 6-3.
Vladar stopped 18 of 21 shots while Hart stopped 32 of 38. Providence was 0-4 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill. The P-Bruins complete their two-game Pennsylvania road trip tomorrow afternoon in Wilkes-Barre Scranton when they take on the Penguins at 3:05pm.
