Game Day Build-Up: Senators at Comets, November 24

November 24, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Belleville Senators News Release

The set-up

After collecting three of a possible four points in Charlotte, the Belleville Senators head to New York for the second time this season for a match-up with the Utica Comets.

Belleville (9-9-1-0) sits in fourth spot in the North Division, one point up on Utica. The Sens continue to put a top 10 power play on the ice but currently sit 25th in the league in penalty killing.

Utica (8-10-1-1) is coming off of a vital win Friday against the North Division leading Rochester Americans as they look to crawl their way back to the .500 mark.

Roster notes

In what feels like a rarity, no moves since Wednesday night for the Senators as Troy Mann keeps the same squad at his disposal although with Ottawa trading defenceman Chris Wideman to Edmonton Thursday, the chances of one of the young blue-liners, most notably Christian Jaros, coming back to Belleville seems increasingly unlikely.

The Sens still haven't revealed their goaltending plans for tonight as Filip Gustavsson will either start his third straight game or Jake Paterson will start his second game of the year.

Goaltenders Mike Condon and Marcus Hogberg and forward Andrew Sturtz didn't travel.

Previous history

The Sens opened the season in Utica with a 3-1 loss but got revenge on Nov. 14 with a 5-4 shootout victory. The teams will face off three more times this season after tonight. Belleville is 4-4-0-0 all-time against the Comets.

Who to watch

Both Paul Carey and Jack Rodewald are riding five-game point streaks for the Sens, which ties the franchise record. Rodewald's 15 points are second on the team while Carey's 13 are tied for third.

In his first year with Utica, Tanner Kero is the active leading points scorer for the Comets this season with 15 points (five goals).

Where to watch

Saturday's game starts at 7:00pm and can be seen on AHLTV. Fans can also watch tonight's contest at Shoeless Joe's in Belleville.

The radio broadcast on CJBQ 800 begins at 6:50pm with Jack Miller on the call.
