Moose Tie in Third, Win in OT

The Manitoba Moose (9-8-1-0) started off a two-game set with the Iowa Wild (11-4-2-1) with a 4-3 overtime victory at Bell MTS Place. The Moose put pressure on the Wild early, but were slowed by the first two penalties of the game. Manitoba took control back after killing off the infractions. The Moose thought they had opened the scoring midway through the frame, but Ryan White's tally was called back on a high-stick. The Moose went right back on the attack and Logan Shaw put a loose puck into the crease, and it eventually made it's way past Iowa goaltender C.J. Motte with 1:32 left in the first. The Moose didn't hold the lead long, as the Wild tied the game just 50 seconds later on Mitch McClain's put-back for a 1-1 game after 20 minutes
The Moose took two more penalties in the first ten minutes of the second frame, but were successful killing them off. Manitoba followed the special teams with more forechecking pressure in the Wild zone. With six minutes to go in the period two an alley-oop pass from Iowa's Mason Shaw found Luke Kunin, who gave Iowa their first lead at 2-1. Under two minutes later, Tucker Poolman tied the game up once again with a wrister from the point that eluded Motte. Iowa responded quickly with Gerry Fitzgerald cleaning up a rebound and pushing the score to 3-2.
The Moose entered the third looking for the tying goal and they found it just over six minutes in when Emile Poirier tipped home a Peter Stoykewych point shot. The 3-3 score remained on the board through 60 minutes as the Moose needed overtime to decide a game for the second time in three outings. Eric Comrie was stellar in the third, making 15 saves for the Moose. The extra frame only took 29 seconds as Michael Spacek connected with Mason Appleton for the winner to lift Manitoba to a 4-3 victory.

Forward Logan Shaw on his early success with the Moose - "I think it's just going to the net, making smart plays and if you look at my assist too, it's just throwing pucks to the net. It's nothing special. I think a lot of it has to with the guys I'm playing with. It's nice. They're doing the same thing. Keeping it simple, playing smart. It's paying off and it's nice when they start going in like that."
