Last Time Out:
The Hershey Bears travel north on I-81 a night after being dealt a 6-2 loss to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Hershey's defeat marked the seventh straight regular season loss at PPL Center. Beck Malenstyn opened the scoring at 3:38, but Mike Vecchione evened the score on the power play at 12:01. Greg Carey scored two goals only 2:36 apart in the second period to give the Phantoms a 3-1 lead. Jayson Megna pulled the Bears within one prior to second intermission with his fourth goal of the season at 12:01. Lehigh Valley tacked on three more for insurance in the third period to run away with a 6-2 final. The Pens are entering tonight's game after losing 4-3 in overtime to the Springfield Thunderbirds. Joseph Cramarossa, Teddy Blueger and Ethan Prow scored for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Last Time Versus the Pens:
The Bears last played the Penguins on Oct. 27 when Hershey won a thrilling 4-3 shootout decision at Giant Center. Hershey erased three-different one-goal deficits in regulation to force overtime. Mike Sgarbossa, Riley Barber and Beck Malenstyn scored for the Bears, and Barber provided the game-winner in the shootout. Malenstyn's goal was his first professional goal and tied the game at 3-3 at 4:02 in the third period. Ilya Samsonov stopped both shootout shots he faced and turned aside 19 of 22 shots for the win.
One until 500 for Pyett:
Logan Pyett skated in his 499th career professional hockey game last night in Lehigh Valley. Pyett currently has one assist in eight games this season with the Chocolate and White. Pyett's career mark includes games 369 American Hockey League games, 103 KHL games and 26 games played in Asia.
Hobbs Remains Hot:
Connor Hobbs' two-assist performance last night marked his third career multi-point game. In 44 games last season, Hobbs' last multi-point game occurred on Apr. 7, 2018 after tallying two assists. He now leads his team in assists with 11 in 19 games and is on pace for shattering last season's assist total of 13 in 44 games. He has one assist in the three contests versus the Baby Pens this year.
We're Mused to it:
As a result on Pens' goaltender Tristan Jarry's recent call up from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to the Pittsburgh Penguins, John Muse has been reassigned from Wheeling (ECHL) to the Baby Pens. Muse saw split time last season between the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and the Reading Royals (ECHL). Last season, the Bears battled Muse twice, with one of his appearances in relief. Muse posted a 1-0 record against Hershey last season with a 4.56 goals against average and .824 save percentage. In his AHL career, Muse has seen time with the Portland Pirates, Charlotte Checkers, Texas Stars, Rochester Americans and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Currently this season with Wheeling, Muse is 4-5-0 with a 2.98 goals against average and .892 save percentage.
