LEWISTON, MAINE (Dec. 31, 2013) - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers lost to the Portland Pirates Tuesday night by a final score of 4-2. Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Anders Lee scored in the first and second periods, respectively, but the Sound Tigers were unable to hold on for the victory. Anders Nilsson got the start in net for the Sound Tigers and made 28 saves. With the loss, the Sound Tigers fall to 13-17-1-3.

Bouchard's goal was the first of the game and came at the 12:16 mark of the first period. The play was set up by an outstanding individual effort by Joey Diamond, who stickhandled through the Pirates zone and found Bouchard open in front. Bouchard put it in for his third goal of the season and made it a 1-0 game.

Early in the second period, the Sound Tigers were on a power play and doubled their lead. Lee was parked at the top of the crease, and when Dallas Jackson's shot was stopped by Pirates goaltender Lou Domingue, he was right there to put home the rebound. The goal came less than a minute into the second period and gave the Sound Tigers a 2-0 lead.

The Pirates got one back later in the second period on the first of Brett Hextall's first of two goals of the game. Lucas Lessio took a shot that handcuffed Nilsson, who was unable to find the rebound as it kicked towards the far post. Hextall was there to fire the rebound past Nilsson and make it a 2-1 game.

The Pirates tied the score and took the lead in the third period after Marc Cantin was assessed a five-minute major and match penalty for a check to the head. First, Jordan Szwarz drove to the net, took an area pass from Daine Todd and put it past Nilsson to tie the score. As the penaty was winding down, Lessio took the puck coast-to-coast and slid it past Nilsson to give the Pirates a one-goal lead.

The Sound Tigers picked a power play after Cantin's penalty expired, but they were unable to convert. Later, after the Sound Tigers pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker, Hextall found the empty net to make it a 4-2 game.

The Sound Tigers are back on the road for games against the Norfolk Admirals Jan. 3 and 4. They will be back home on Jan. 11 for another contest against Portland.
